- Remote CDI Specialists (Multiple openings)
Description
CSI Companies is hiring Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) professionals for multiple contract opportunities supporting documentation integrity, reimbursement accuracy, and quality outcomes. These roles vary by focus area (Inpatient, Outpatient/Practice, and Team Lead) and may include remote work with limited onsite requirements depending on the assignment.
Schedule: 40 hours/week (typical)
Work Type: Remote/Hybrid (varies by opportunity; some require an onsite orientation)
Position Type: Long-term Contracts (length varies by opportunity; extensions possible)

Opportunity 1: Inpatient CDI Specialist (Remote)
What you’ll do
- Perform concurrent and/or retrospective inpatient CDI reviews in an acute-care setting
- Identify documentation gaps impacting the severity of illness, risk of mortality, quality metrics, and reimbursement
- Create compliant, non-leading provider queries aligned to industry standards
- Collaborate with coding and provider teams to support accurate diagnosis/procedure capture
- Meet established productivity and quality benchmarks
What we’re looking for
- Active RN license with strong inpatient clinical experience (ED/ICU preferred)
- 2+ years of inpatient CDI experience in an acute-care environment is highly preferred
- In lieu of prior CDI experience, those with extensive ED/ICU experience and a willingness to learn CDI, will be considered
- CDI certification (CDIP or CCDS) is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of MS-DRG methodology and ICD-10-CM/PCS
- Ability to work effectively in a secure home environment (when remote)
Opportunity 2: Inpatient CDI Team Lead (Remote with minimal onsite/travel)
What you’ll do
- Lead day-to-day inpatient CDI workflow execution and support metric analysis/reporting
- Perform inpatient chart reviews and identify provider education opportunities
- Audit CDI work, mentor CDI Specialists, and support quality/productivity expectations
- Partner with program stakeholders to develop/provide CDI education
- Occasional onsite requirement (program-dependent; may be minimal)
What we’re looking for (Required)
- Active RN license with meaningful acute-care inpatient clinical experience (ED/ICU preferred)
- CDI leadership/mentoring and/or education experience
- CDI/coding credential(s): CDIP, CCDS, CCS, CCM (or similar)
- Strong communication and coordination skills in a remote model
Opportunity 3: Outpatient/Practice CDI Specialist (Onsite orientation then remote)
What you’ll do
- Review outpatient/practice documentation and identify opportunities to improve accuracy and clinical specificity
- Apply strong clinical judgment to support accurate condition capture (not relying solely on the query process)
- Collaborate with operational and clinical partners to improve documentation quality and consistency
- Complete any pre-interview questionnaire/assessment steps required for selection
What we’re looking for (Required)
- Epic experience (required)
- CDIP certification (required)
- Medically trained background with prior practice experience (examples: RN, MD/DO, or similar clinical training)
- Ability to make independent clinical determinations and clearly articulate rationale
- Will require onsite orientation before becoming fully remote
Nice to have
- CRC (or similar) certification
Prior outpatient CDI experience (strongly preferred in some programs; extensive inpatient CDI may be considered)
