Description
Position OverviewMore than perhaps any other factor, the degree to which a university attracts and retains qualified students determines the success or failure of that institution. The Enrollment Management division is a key player in this activity and has a profound effect on the institution's success. Enrollment Management (EM) includes the following functional units: Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Enrollment Management, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Office of the University Registrar, Student Lifecycle Technology, Enrollment Marketing Communications, and Enrollment Management Services. The division is committed to developing a data-informed, forward-looking, comprehensive enrollment strategy that enables the institution to pursue strategic goals in an integrated and intentional manner.
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions reports to the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and is responsible for domestic and international undergraduate admissions for freshman and transfer students. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions coordinates the overall recruitment strategy for KU including travel, high school and community college relations, on and off campus events, prospect and inquiry management, and application processing.
The Assistant Director of Freshman Recruitment, reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Undergraduate Recruitment, plays a critical role in the design and implementation of recruitment strategies designed to attract and enroll an incoming class of an appropriate size and mix, as defined by university enrollment goals and the university strategic plan. Specifically, he or she will be responsible for coaching staff members in developing, implementing and evaluating territory management strategies designed to elevate and enhance KU's market position and profile with specific focus on the primary market in Kansas as well as selective secondary and tertiary out-of-state markets. The admissions team is highly trained in university information, recruitment tactics in a data-driven environment to provide the highest level of service and understanding of students from various backgrounds, interests and experiences. This position will provide guidance, direction and support for Kansas-based admissions representatives.

Job Description
65% Recruitment Strategy: Market Development and Cultivation
- Provides guidance, direction and support for Kansas-based admissions representatives. Utilizing a territory management approach, hires, trains, supervises and coaches both new and returning admissions representatives on all aspects of admissions to include territory and funnel management, data management and utilization, relationship building and multi-channel-communications to reach or exceed enrollment goals.
- Works with territory managers on established goals/targets for each territory and develop and evaluate recruitment efforts based on current market position as well as current, historic funnel performance and other data analysis.
- Provides reports outlining recruitment efforts and outcomes.
- Conducts regular team and individual meetings in order to ensure consistency in communications and knowledge transfer regarding best practices.
- Assists territory managers with developing recruitment strategies for assigned recruitment territory including reviewing and analyzing data to prioritize and maximize travel and identify and target recruitment interventions on those students with the highest propensity to attend as well as those that are most desirable to achieving the multiple and varied enrollment goals and objectives of the university.
- Works closely with the Director of Admissions, Senior Associate Director of Undergraduate Recruitment and the Assistant Director overseeing the regionally based staff to ensure alignment and integration of recruitment strategies within a data-oriented and results-driven organization.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of both in-person and digital recruitment strategies in a specified territory and determines need for additional efforts. Initiates, plans, and executes special projects in conjunction with territory goals and objectives. Builds and maintains relationships and serves as university liaison to high school counselors and alumni in territory. Schedules visits to high schools, coordinates pre-visit calls and correspondence, makes travel arrangements, conducts visits, and follows up with students, faculty, and staff contacted during visits via phone calls, letters, and email.
- Manages recruitment budget.
- Plans and executes event programming necessary for achieving University enrollment goals, including some predetermined programs and events based on the specific territory or recruitment area. Analyzes territory and recommends, plans, and executes additional programs and events in response to funnel performance. Evaluates program effectiveness, assesses outcomes, and utilizes program assessment data to enhance/improve/refine/recalibrate recruitment strategies and tactics.
10% Staffing and Organizing Virtual and On-and-Off Campus Recruitment Events
- Provides in-person and virtual presentations in a central public speaking role to small and large groups of prospective students, families and community stakeholders; communicates KU's competitive advantage to campus visitors and other parties in off-campus venues.
- Plans and executes individual meetings with prospective students and families virtually, and on/off campus.
- Plans, organizes and hosts targeted recruitment events in assigned Kansas and out-of-state markets; coordinating and hosting with university students, faculty, staff and alumni.
- Serves as a member of the Freshman Recruitment Planning committee and consults/offers input on topics including, but not limited to programming, recruitment strategies, and visits and events.
- Assumes other responsibilities assigned by the Sr. Associate Director or Director.
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or bachelor's plus three years related experience.
- At least one year territory management experience as an admissions representative.
- Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
- Supervisory experience as evidenced by application materials
